The undergraduate Speech Sciences program is designed to prepare students for graduate work in speech-language pathology or audiology.
There are no courses labeled “speech sciences;” speech sciences students take an interdisciplinary program administered by the Linguistics department with courses from Linguistics, Psychology, and the School of Audiology and Speech Sciences.
Students study research methods, language structure, child development and language acquisition, anatomy and physiology, experimental psychology, and instrumental phonetics.
Almost all coursework deals with normal language; most work on language disorders happens in graduate school.
Admission to the Honours program requires the approval of the undergraduate advisor. The major can be declared on the Student Services Centre (SSC) when you have second-year standing. The minor can be declared on the SSC when you have third-year standing.
