The influence of the U.S. is felt everywhere, perhaps nowhere more than in Canada. As such close neighbours, it is essential that Canadians better understand the U.S.
The U.S. Studies Program offers an exciting interdisciplinary program through the collaboration of the departments of Political Science, Economics, and History.
Undergraduates will combine coursework on the U.S. across departments and gain an in-depth understanding of U.S. politics, economics, and history. Students are able to take courses in areas as diverse as the U.S. presidency, African American history, and American foreign policy.
The program will provide Canadian government, corporations, and other institutions with graduates who have an excellent understanding of Canada-U.S. relations.
The program will allow graduates to better respond to employment opportunities in Canada and the U.S.
The major or minor can be declared on the Student Service Centre (SSC) when you have third-year standing.
Michelle Silongan (BA ’09, MPP ’11) is interested in the intersections between political science, public policy, and law. She is a proponent of the United States studies program at UBC, which she minored in along with her political science major.
More to come.
