Second Degree

BA/BFA as a second degree

Students who have already completed an undergraduate degree may apply for admission to the Faculty of Arts to complete a second undergraduate degree with a different specialization. To complete a BA or BFA as a second degree you must:

  • Complete a minimum of 60 UBC credits.
  • A minimum of 36 of the 60 credits must be from courses taught in Arts. Arts courses include those identified in the UBC Calendar course descriptions as those offered by the Faculty of Arts. This requirement may be reduced for students specializing in mathematics or computer science.
  • Meet all Faculty of Arts requirements (if not done as part of your first bachelor degree).
  • Complete credit requirements for your minor/major/honours. All upper-level requirements (courses numbered 300 and higher) must be met through second-degree credits only. No first degree credits may be counted toward upper-level minor/major/honours requirements for a second degree.

Students are not permitted to undertake a second-degree program that overlaps significantly with studies undertaken for a previously granted degree.
