Degree Requirements

1) Writing and Research

2) Language

3) Science

4) Literature

5) Credit

6) Specialization Requirements

In addition to these five degree/faculty requirements, you must fulfill the requirements of your specialization.  Specialization requirements are listed in the Academic Calendar or on most department websites.

The Writing and Research Requirement applies to:

- all students beginning their studies in Arts in Winter 2011/12 or later
- students who began their studies in Arts in Winter Session 2009/10 or later from secondary school, including those with IB, AP, or A-Level credit.
- students who began their studies in Arts in Winter Session 2009/10 from college or university with fewer than 7 transfer credits
- students who began their studies in Arts in Winter Session 2009/10 or later with a completed degree
- students beginning their studies in Arts in Winter Session 2010/11 from college or university with 53 or fewer transfer credits

If you began your studies prior to Winter 2009/10 or if you are not included in one of the groups listed above, the Writing and Research Requirement does not apply to you and you must complete the First-Year English Requirement. Please see Arts Advising if you would like help clarifying which requirement you must complete.
